Sport: Track and Field
City: Houston, TX
Alexis Rivera is one of Houston’s brightest track and field stars, with a passion for both sprinting and long jump. At just 17 years old, Alexis has already built an impressive list of accomplishments, and her determination to succeed in both academics and athletics is a shining example for other young athletes.
Alexis started running track in elementary school, but it wasn’t until high school that she truly began to excel. Her freshman year was a turning point as she won the district championship in the 100-meter sprint, setting a new personal best time. That success pushed her to take the sport more seriously. Now, as a senior at Westside High School, Alexis holds the school record in the 200-meter dash and has qualified for the Texas State Championships multiple times.
But it’s not just her athletic talent that sets Alexis apart. She’s known among her coaches and peers for her work ethic and focus. “She’s one of the most disciplined athletes I’ve ever coached,” says Coach Heather Thompson. “She sets goals, works tirelessly to achieve them, and inspires others to push themselves.”
Alexis’s commitment extends beyond the track. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and has been accepted to several prestigious universities, with plans to pursue a degree in kinesiology. “My education comes first, but track is my passion,” Alexis explains. “I want to help others achieve their athletic dreams too, whether that’s through coaching or physical therapy.”
Outside of competitions, Alexis volunteers at local youth track camps, encouraging the next generation of athletes to chase their dreams. She’s determined to leave a lasting legacy, both on the track and in the community.
